K-9 Rony is a six and a half year old
male German Shepherd. Rony was born in the
Czech Republic where he received basic
training in obedience, tracking and
apprehension. Rony’s Czech name is Teo.
Rony
was brought to the U.S. in 2004 from the
Czech Republic by Castle’s K-9 Inc., based
in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania who
specializes in training police dogs for many
specialized applications. Rony joined the
Moultonborough Police Department as the
department’s first K-9 Unit in 2005, through
many generous donations and grants. First
teaming up with Master Patrol Officer James
Obrien. MPO Obrien and K-9 Rony had many
successful tracks, drug finds and
apprehensions during their service together.

K-9 Unit
functions:
- Routine Patrol
- Detection of Illegal Drugs
- Tracking
suspects/lost/missing people
- Detection of suspects hiding
in buildings, cars, wooded area
- Handler/Officer protection
and suspect apprehension
- K-9 demonstrations for
numerous organizations, schools
and clubs

In 2007 Rony took on a new
partner Master Patrol Officer
Stephen Kessler, when MPO Obrien
transferred to the Wolfeboro Police
Department to start Wolfeboro’s
first police K-9 Unit. MPO Kessler
and K-9 Rony went back to school and
received their first of many patrol
certifications together from the
North American Police Working Dog
Association (NAPWADA) and The United
States Police Canine Association.
K-9 Rony is a dual purpose patrol
dog trained in both drug detection
and patrol work. K-9 Rony is trained
to detect 5 different illegal drugs,
tracking people, apprehend suspects
and handler protection.
Over the years MPO KESSLER and K-9
Rony have maintained a high standard
of preparedness through constant
training with the New Hampshire
Working Dog Foundations Police K-9
Academy. MPO Kessler and K-9 Rony
have also been operators on the
Central New Hampshire Special
Operations Unit and are currently
one of two K-9 teams on the Belknap
County Special Operations Unit (Swat
Team). |
Over the past three years as a team MPO
Kessler and K-9 Rony have continued the
success of Moultonborough’s K-9 unit with
many successful deployments both in town and
throughout the state.
